 Destination: Ethiopia

Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world and education is a luxury which many of the population have never received, resulting in two-thirds of adults being illiterate. Despite this poverty and lack of development, Ethiopia is a scenic and fascinating country with a rich history and cultural identity and you can experience it all by helping out on one of our Teaching, Care, Medicine and Healthcare and Journalism projects.

Use your skills to enrich the lives of others by volunteering on a Care project in Addis Ababa. On our Care projects you can choose to work in a kindergarten, day centre, drop-in centre or on our health and hygiene outreach project. Volunteers who choose to work on a placement at Safe House Ethiopia will have the chance to help with the running of a centre which provides protection and education for 4 to 18 year olds who are disadvantaged, at risk or are former street children. The children and teenagers come here to learn, play, eat and socialise in a safe environment and there are real opportunities for you to get stuck in with caring for the children and teaching English and other subjects such as art, music, sport and drama.
